Smart film

Switch the privacy.
Keep the glass.

Wholesale PDLC smart film for existing interior glass. Help clients move between a clearer view and a frosted privacy state without adding a conventional shade.

One glass surface. Two privacy states.

PDLC film changes its appearance when power is applied. Energized film becomes clearer; with power off, it returns to its frosted state. Specify it for visual privacy, with the electrical connections and controls planned as part of the installation.

Frosted film diffuses light. It does not create blackout or sound insulation. Clear-state appearance can retain haze and varies with lighting and viewing angle.

Where to specify smart film.

Meeting rooms & offices

Switch privacy for conversations and presentations while retaining a glass partition and access to natural light.

Interior residential glass

Use on suitable interior windows and partitions where the client wants privacy without fabric or a moving track.

Bathroom partitions

Plan a dry-side installation on suitable glass. The film, edges, connections, and controls need protection from moisture.

Build the installation into the specification.

  1. Confirm the glass and environment.

Provide clear photos, glass type, pane dimensions, shape, location, and any coatings or existing damage. Uprise can review suitability before fabrication.

  2. Choose the appearance.

Uprise lists white, light gray, dark gray, and black options. Discuss a physical sample, clear-state haze, and the room’s lighting; custom colors may require minimum quantities.

  3. Map power and controls.

The published Uprise system uses a dedicated 60 VAC transformer. Plan its location, cable routes, pane connections, switching, and access for service with the installation team. Do not connect film directly to household line voltage.

  4. Plan edges and finishing.

Confirm busbar and wire locations before production, along with approved edge-sealing materials. Uprise’s guidance calls for approved silicone; finishing is part of moisture protection.

  5. Agree on installation and support.

Discuss certified-dealer installation, training, commissioning, and care. Confirm the current warranty terms and documentation for the actual project.

Privacy planning for wet-area projects.

Bathroom glass requires careful placement: Uprise’s guidance describes film on the indoor, dry side of glass rather than the exposed wet surface. Review splash exposure, condensation, edges, and electrical routing before approving the application.

Specify cleaning and maintenance instructions at handover. Use the product’s approved care guidance and protect edges and connections during cleaning.

Questions from the trade.

Is smart film the same as smart glass?

Smart film is applied to suitable existing glass. Smart glass is a glass assembly incorporating a switchable layer. Confirm which product the project requires.

What happens when power is off?

Uprise’s PDLC film returns to its frosted privacy state when power is removed. The energized state provides a clearer view.

Will the clear state look exactly like untreated glass?

Some haze can remain. Lighting, viewing angle, glass, and installation affect the appearance; review a physical sample before specifying.

Can it be used outdoors or directly exposed to shower water?

The published Uprise guidance is for indoor use and a dry-side application. Have Uprise review wet-area conditions before ordering.

Can smart film connect to a smart-home system?

Discuss the switching or relay interface with Uprise and the integrator. Compatibility depends on the controller and electrical design; film itself is not a Wi-Fi device.
